senior divorce presents unique challenges worthy of hiring a lawyer

Getting old is difficult, and for many people loneliness can make that process even more challenging. Most people are aware that as they get older, they will encounter more health issues. But researchers have also found that more individuals will be aging without family support and this could lead to decreased health in old age.

A study recently published in the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that loneliness among older adults poses a high risk to population health. Those individuals who grow old without spouses or children to care for them could partly be explained by lower marriage rates and higher divorce rates across the U.S. But in either case, this trend will have a major influence on society. This could be a critical demographic trend for society in general, as well as the institutions that provide services for older adults.

Those individuals who lack family members are more likely to suffer poor health, have less economic resources and suffer from social isolation. Black Americans are expected to be disproportionately affected by these risk factors in the coming decades. Black Americans face higher rates of gray divorce or divorce that happens during the later years of life, but they are also more likely to have a deceased spouse by age 60.

African Americans, however, are somewhat more likely to have living children as they get older. Thinking about the potential ramifications of divorce is crucial regardless of whether or not you have minor children or adult children.

It’s never easy to contemplate divorce regardless of your station in life. However, those people who are older and bring significant assets to the table will want a lawyer to work with them when it comes to marital dissolution. Setting yourself up for financial success post-divorce is a worthwhile endeavor and one that should be reviewed carefully by a knowledgeable divorce lawyer. Gray divorce means more complicated issues and financial entanglements.

Divorce can represent a significant change in your day to day life, as well as your financial well-being and scheduling a consultation with a divorce attorney who cares can give you a much better peace of mind about what to expect.
